Jim Adkins at Hollywood Forever’s Masonic Lodge

On Tuesday (7/28/15) I got to photograph Jim Adkins’ sold out Hollywood Forever show for The Owl Mag. [Click here to see post!] It was a pleasant evening at Hollywood Forever’s Masonic Lodge, there was an air of nostalgia as the crowd hummed with glee about seeing the Jimmy Eat World frontman.

With a setlist ranging Jimmy Eat World’s extensive catalog, new solo material, and a few fun covers (including, but not limited to, Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want To Have Fun”), it was no surprise the venue was filled to the brim. Whether you were a fan since the start of Jimmy Eat World’s longstanding career or were just hooked on Adkins’ sweet crooning on “Love Don’t Wait” yesterday, the singer-songwriter’s gratifying set was a treat for all in attendance.

While I’ve been a Jimmy Eat World fan for 10 years now (time has really flown), I’ve yet to see them live. (Unfortunately timing has not been on my side, which has left me fairly crestfallen.) So, hearing Adkins perform tracks such as “Lucky Denver Mint” and “Kill” was an exciting experience. It was impressive how even with just an acoustic guitar, “Lucky Denver Mint” still carried its lively presence. Of Adkins’ newer tracks, I was delighted to hear the beautifully bittersweet ”I Will Go.”

Below are outtakes and favorites.
